A valid Maryland DNR Youth Group Pass is required to reserve a youth group camping area. The sites are very intermingled on the ocean side, but the bay side seemed like it had more private sites. Camping on Assateague Island is permitted only on the Maryland side of Assateague at designated areas. You also have to purchase a $20 7-day state park pass during your stay, so make sure you budget of that expense. Only suggestion if you need darkness to sleep to not pick a spot by the bathroom as the dim light is on all night as they are in all campgrounds, further away the darker it is. We stayed in I326. On the map, where “G” loop ends, “H” loop begins and continues south, down the beach. We stayed on the C loop great spot. Unfortunately we had to leave a day early due to the loss of our tent and canopy from a storm, the wind actually lifted the canopy and moved it to across our site! A true slice of heaven!!Wow!
Oceanside Walk-in: Tent-only sites, located 100-200 feet from centralized parking areas. It took 3 minutes or so to walk to the ocean. Camping at Assateague Island National Seashore is permitted only on the Maryland side of Assateague. Our site was perfect. Backcountry camping without a permit is prohibited.
