All Things Being Equal is the first album he’s released under the Sonic Boom moniker since 1990, back when he was mostly known as the co-creator of his teenage band Spacemen 3. What an album alert. Been a while since a record has sounded so god damn good on the first listen. “Tawkin Tekno,” the only instrumental number on the album, sounds like a Suicide outtake remodeled for the millennial age, while epic closer “I Feel a Change Coming On” finds Kember at his most reflective, yet assured. Usual psych packaging one would expect from Mr Kember.

While the grandiose space-rock frontsmanship of his erstwhile Spacemen 3 partner Jason Pierce has faded somewhat into the safety of the adult contemporary rotation, the seeds Kember has scattered as experimenter, heteronymous collaborator, and champion of analog … lovely pressing, nice and flat with no noise.

I did wonder if I'd received the wrong pressing from the label as the record looks an off-white colour when you remove it from the sleeve.
